USCBP: No New F-1 Visa Stamp Needed After Changing Schools

June 13th, 2012 by SRW Lawyers

During a recent liaison meeting between AILA and USCBP’s Chicago Field Office, the question was raised whether an F-1 visa student who had transferred to a new school required a new F-1 visa stamp with the new school’s name in order to re-enter the U.S. after travel abroad.

The Chicago Field Office stated that as long as the student’s original F-1 visa stamp was valid, and he/she possessed a valid I-20 form from the new school, USCBP would recognize the original F-1 visa stamp and allow re-entry.
